The Prime Focus Broadcast division in the UK was previously known as blue.

Never shying from the darker side of prison life, Bad Girls celebrates the warmth, compassion and defiant sense of humour that can sometimes triumph even behind bars. On the largest free-standing set ever used in a British drama, Shed Productions, the pre-eminent producers of long-running fiction, offer an unprecedented, stirring glimpse of life behind the closed doors of a women's prison.

On the outside are the women's homes, partners and children... But on the inside they must negotiate their places in the prison's hierarchy and sometimes make difficult new choices. This long-running series shows the relentless officiousness of the prison system and its regulations pitched against the devious tactics of the smarter prisoners.

Tense storylines and controversial issues are coupled with intelligent performances by a great ensemble cast that all contribute to make Bad Girls a ratings winner. As well as creating memorable characters that viewers love - or love to hate - Bad Girls has featured appearances by major international stars including Stephanie Beacham (The Colbys, Dynasty), Kate O'Mara (Dynasty, Howard's Way) and Amanda Donohue (LA Law).
